BLACK ROCK - a food story
Passion Project :
This was a passion project I was very glad to be involved with. A group of likeminded chefs, creatives and producers. We wanted to creative a food story without constraints. A film that could be tailored to the creative not one product or brands needs. It was a fantastic project to work on with chef Simon Stallard bringing his unique style of cooking and personality. Tim Boydell DOP leading the visuals and great crew of both trainee’s and experianced commercial crew.
We chose Black Rock beach in North Devon as the location as its iconic arch felt like the perfect place for us to frame Simon on a wet and windy November day. The black rocks and boulders gave a stark contrast to the fire and silvers of the fish. It was a commanding star of the film and we chose to leave the final drone shot as long as possible to show the true size and scale of the outcrop.
The family Clovelly kindly allowed us permission to the area which is almost always off limits to film crews. The Fisherman in the opening scenes is the real Harbour master of Clovelly and is a genuine pilchard fisherman. We wanted to keep the food and place at the forefront of the creative allowing this to be as narratively true as possible.
It was a pleasure to work on the creative produce this project.
